MERK PROGRAM MISSION
The MERK program was created so that in the event of a natural disaster, a large-scale incident, or extended deployment by emergency services details, as well as people displaced from their homes, or at civic/community events, the Scouts, Explorers, and Cub Scouts will mobilize and feed first responders, emergency personnel, police, firefighters, and victims using the MERK vehicles and equipment.
HISTORY Ed Hill, a long time ScoutsBSA uniformed leader, founded the MERK program in March of 2016. His vision created the first Mobile Emergency Response Kitchen (MERK). The program has been in service since the acquisition of its first truck and support trailer shortly thereafter and is operated by Troop 138 based in Paramus, NJ. With the help of the community, the Scouts, and other adult leaders, the MERK program has expanded the number of vehicles and gear to two operational trucks and, a support trailer to help the Bergen County area. They have a third vehicle presently in the process of being refurbished. Mr. Hill’s vision is now to use this experience to help other Troops throughout the country create and maintain a MERK program. Watch our YouTube Video https://youtu.be/x4FSP_O5qxk
